The United Nations has warned that climate change is disrupting the Earth's water cycle, leading to floods and droughts around the world.
Last year was the warmest year on record, with the world's freshwater availability and storage declining, including due to melting ice, and northern South America, the Amazon basin and southern Africa, faced prolonged droughts.
The water cycle is accelerating and the water quality of vital lakes is declining due to warmer weather, the WMO noted.
