A modern multi-pollutant detector that can measure atmospheric pollutants around Colombo was installed today (September 17) as part of a project to improve air quality management in Sri Lanka with technical assistance from the French government.
The device has been installed at the Air Quality Monitoring Center operated by the Central Environmental Authority.
It will serve as a powerful tool for implementing air pollution mitigation plans.
Sri Lanka's first Online Real Time Web Based Air Quality Monitoring System provides data with very high accuracy. All these activities will be monitored through the National Steering Committee organized by the Air Quality Management Unit of the Ministry of Environment.
The ceremony to install the new equipment was held under the patronage of the Honorable Deputy Minister of Environment, Mr. Anton Jayakody and the Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka.
A group of officials including the Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Mr. K.R. Uduwawala, and a group of officials from the French Embassy in Sri Lanka also participated in this.
